Sex Crimes and Megan's law
Pennsylvania's Megan's Law requires the State Police to create and maintain a registry of people who have either been convicted of or entered a plea of guilty to certain sex offenses in Pennsylvania or another jurisdiction. As part of the law, the State Police also make certain information on registered sex offenders available to the public through a Web site.
Failure to follow the registry's rules can lead to further, more serious charges for sex offenders. For instance, police have cracked down on offenders' failures to notify police when they move. Offenders face felony charges in those instances.
